While the yacht Dido was on the south side of Ward Island, in the harbour, last week, one of tho crew, Mr W. Stevens, son of Mr F. Stevens, Oriental Bay, hooked a large octopus, and pulled it to the surface, but it then succeeded in getting- away. The octopus had feelers about 7ft long, and as some of the yachtsmen had been bathing there the day before, their emotions when they saw what they had escaped were decided. Tho Assistant Surveyor - General has presented the Harbour Board with a copy of Captain Chaffer’s chart of the harboup of Port Nicholson, dated 1841.
