The other is "thru TJmtali Advertiser of December 18. Botvt exemplify in a striking manner the almoss feverishly rapid march of colonisation, through regions in which but yesterday, it were, the face of the white man was unknown. The Chronicle is an excellently - printed four-page paper, with many advertisements and a large amount of up-to-date information. The particular copyunder notice (dated 15th February) contains cablegrams despatched from London on the 12th February. This in itself is u, remarkable fact, considering that Buluwayo is situated in the very heart of Soutla Africa, and that but the other dayit was merely known of as this principal kraal of the chief Lobengula* Mr Cecil Rhodes, in addressing a meeting of the Chartered Company in London on the 6th February, stated that within sisc months business stands in Buluwayo bad risen in value from .£l6O to .£2OOO. It is about the size of the Mercantile Gazette, and is typa written and then manifolded in a rather blotchy fashion by means of the mimeograph. In the number to hand particulars are given of the extension of the railway towards Beira on the coast of the Portuguese territory, and near the 20th parallel of latitude. According to Mr Rhodes thl ? railway is paying 4 per cent, clear Ci working expenses. The paper complain a of want of native labour in the '.TJmtali district and its surrounding goldfields.
