THE PARIHAKA MEETING.

New Plymouth, March 27, The big- March meeting- at Parihaka closed yesterday, and the crowds of Native visitors have left for their homes. Te Whiti, the Maori prophet, made a long speech on Monday night. In the course of his remarks he told his followers that the visit of the Hon Mr Beeves was a sign of peace, and that sooner or later Parihaka would be visited by the Premier, who would settle all things, and that thenceforward peace and happiness would exist between the two races. In concluding his address Te Whiti directed his visitors to return to their homes, but asked them to be ready to come back to Parihaka on the shortest notice, as it was his intention to give the Premier a most impressive welcome upon his arrival. The Northern Maoris passed through here last evening. Wi Parata and the Southern visitors have also left for their respective settlements.
