FIRE AT NEWTOWN.

The Fire Brigade received a call at 10.40 on Friday to a fire at the Co-operative Bus Company’s Stables, Mansfield street, Newtown. The place was well alight when the Brigade arrived, but with a good supply of water the outbreak was got under without difficulty, although not before the stables were partially destroyed. The fire was discovered by Nightwatchman Lee just as the horses were being put in for the night. It had apparently originated at the rear of the building, but the cause has not been discovered. The horses, ’busses, harness, &c., were all removed without injury, the only loss, sustained, beyond the damage to the building, being that of about five tons of feed, which are estimated as being worth something like .£2O. The damage done to the stables is estimated at about <£2oo. The coach house adjoining escaped injury. The business of the Company changed hands recently, the purchaser being Mr A. Crossey, formerly manager.
