LAND SALE AT EKETAHCJNA
A land sale was held at Eketahuna by Mr Commissioner Baker on Tuesday. The sale was well attended. All sections but two sold at satisfactory prices. Rain fell on ten days in February, the maximum fall being 3‘39in for the 24 hours ending at 9 o’clock on the morning of the 11th. The total fall for the month was 6-320 in, against s‘2l9in for February of last year. The average fall for the month in previous years is 3‘542in. Harcourt’s Register and Property Guide for February is to hand, and as usual contains a lot of valuable information to investors and others. The list of city and country properties for sale and to let is a large and varied one. The Customs duties collected at this port last week amounted to £9287 15s lOd, and the beer duty to £55 19s. Animals are often able to bear very protracted fasting. In the Italian earthquakes of 1795 a dog was buried, it is said, for 23 days, and recovered.
