Mr H. H. Dacre, who was the only Wellington competitor at the Christchurch Championship Swimming Sports on Saturday afternoon, returned by the Rotorua on Sunday. He was unable to obtain an extended leave, and in consequence could not stay to take part in the programme prepared by Mr C. J. C. Smart. Mr Dacre speaks highly of the treatment he received during his short stay in the Cathedral City. Sydney, March 1. The 1000yds Swimming Championship w T as won by Cavill. J. Hellings retired exhausted at 600yds. Time, 15min 58 2-5 sec. Christchurch, March 2. At the East Christchurch Amateur Swimming Club’s sports, the 220vds Championship of New Zealand was swum, resulting as follows; L. Leo,.New South Wales ... 1 H. Hoey, Auckland ... ... 2 The first heat resulted —H. Hoey, 1; C. Proudfoot, New South Wales, 2; XI. 11. Dacre, Wellington, also started. This was a splendid race. Won by about two yards. Time, 3min 13 3-ssec. Second Heat —L. Leo, 1; 11. J. Bailey, Auckland, 2. 11. Bullivant, East Christchurch, also started. Time, 3 min 22sec. In the final heat Leo, Hoey and Bailey were the starters. Leo won by about four yards. Bailey gave up after going 175yds. Time, 3min 12sec.
