BANKRUPTCY.
There were seven bankruptcies in this district during last month, making the number up to date eleven since the opening of the year. There were four bankruptcies in the corresponding month of last year. Frederick Dryden and Thomas Dryden, tinsmiths of Manners street, were adjudged bankrupt on Monday. The liabilities (all unsecured) are set down at .£464' 4s lOd, and are divided among 11 creditoi’s. The claim of A. and T. Burt, ironmongers, amounts to three-fourths of the total liabilities, the debt owing to them amounting to .£321 19s 6d. The next largest creditors are : —J. Duthie and Co., .£36 8s 3d ; S. Luke and Sons, .£3l Os 6d ; National Bank of New Zealand, £l9 17s 2d ; and E. W. Mills and Co., £l7 17s 2d. The assets • are stated at £204 17s Id (viz., book debts, £69 5s 7d, and stock-in-trade estimated at £135 11s 6d) leaving a deficiency of £259 7s 9d. The first meeting of creditors takes place on Friday.
