THE AUCKLAND GOLD BOOM.
Handsome' results are still being obtained from the Hauraki mine at Coromandel. The Coromandel County News of Friday last says The show of gold in the workings off the 100 ft level continues to be really first - class. Rich golden stone is coming to hand at each down, and on Tuesday last a large haul of specimens was made. Work in connection with deepening the main shaft is progressing satisfactorily. It is intended to go on sinking after a depth of 160 ft has been reached, but a chamber will be constructed and a level put in at that depth. A parcel of from 5001 b to 6001 b of specimens were treated at the Kapanga battery last week, and as a result a lodgment of 1030 oz of gold was made at the local branch of the Bank of New Zealand. A Press Association telegram from the Thames states that the prospects of the majority of the mines are better than for some years past. At the Waihi mine this month’s yield is expected to be even better than the last. At the Thames proper there seems every likelihood of the development of the deep levels being undertaken by English capitalists at an early date. A pfrty of tributers in the Kuranui mine have obtained the splendid yield of 1320 z gold from 70lb stone.
