Wo have authority for stating that the rumour circulated by our evening contemporary in a recent issue as to the Government having instructed the shop inspectors to warn hotelkeepers against selling lemonade, gingerbeer or other non-alcoholic or non-fermented liquors is a pure canard. The Government have not done, and moreover have no intention of doing, anything so foolish. Hotelkeepers in the exercise ol their calling have the power of vending food and beverages of all kinds. Nearly twice as many German children are short-sighted as in the English schools.
