THE NEW APPEAL BOARD.

Under the Post and Telegraph Department Act of last session there was constituted a Board of Appeal, to which were to be referred all appeals in relation to any question of classification, status or salary arising under the Post and Telegraph Classification and Regulation Act, 1890. The Board is to consist of the Commisgioner of Taxes, the Superintendent of Electric Lines, one officer of the postal branch of the department (to be elected by the officers of that branch), and one officer of the telegraph branch (to be elected by the officers of that branch). The elective members of the Board are to hold office for two years. The Board is to enquire into all cases of appeal, with power to summon and examine witnesses (upon oath if necessary), and to call for the production of papers and documents, and shall report thereon to the Minister, whose decision is to be final. Ballot papers in connection . with the election of the representatives of the post and telegraph branches were sent out some time ago, the poll closing at 5 p.m. on Monday.
