' Dunedin, February 19. i A man named Frank Scott fell in an apoplectic fit last night when playing at bowls, and died this morning. He leaves a widow and four children unprovided for. • Timaru, February 19. At the annual meeting of the Gas Company a dividend of 8 per cent, per annum was declared, absorbing .£724. Auckland, February 19. At the annual meeting of the Auckland Typographical Society, the balance-sheet showed a credit balance of .£125. It was resolved to urge the Legislature to amend the Shop Hours Act in the direction of removing all exemptions, and also including hotels under the provisions of the Act. The Hon W. Jennings was elected president. Auckland, February 19. At an adjourned meeting of those interested in the work of assisting the poor of the London slums, it was agreed to form an association on the lines outlined by Mr Fessey under the name of " The Slum and Drift Children's Friendly Society." In his report on the revenue and trade of the port of Auckland, Mr Rose, Collector of Customs, has this year to show a large docrease in the Customs returns, amounting to .£36,146. While the imports have increased, by .£75,627, the exports show a falling away of .£81,550 compared with 1893. New Plymouth, February 19. The Harbour Board met this morning. It is now composed of all hew members representing country districts j not a New Plymouth member was returned at the late election. Mr Maxwell, of Opunake, was elected chairman, and Mr Ward treasurer. Dunedin, February 19. The Minister for Lands arrived to-night, and will address a public meeting in Dunedin to-morrow.
