HALF-TIME.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—One of the Councillors has struck Out a scheme for relieving the unemployed in a way. He proposes to establish a system of half-time. As a workman, I can hardly see how this can be run. The drainage system is what he proposes to operate upon, and how he can manoeuvre men on the works and have the thing done within the specified time will be a bit of a puzzle. Another thing to be considered is the extra cost to the ratepayers of work being left unattended, where gangs are not kept regularly at work. Falling in and other damages are inevitable. The idea of putting two gangs—half a day each—on a job is simply ridiculous. Why can't Councillors seek for information before rushing into pitfalls ?—I am, &c, Workman.
