THE FIJIAN TEAM.
A move popular team of cricketers than the Fijian team has probably never before visited this Colony. The members are thorough gentlemen and sportsmen, not excluding the distinguished gentlemen wir.li unpronounceable names. The tenm consists of the Hon. J. S. Udal, Messrs 11. Caldwell, J. Collins, W. O Groome, A. Ji. Joske, J. McOwan, H. M. Scott, Ratu Kaduva Levu, Ratu Temasia, Rata Tui Vanua Vou, liatu Nai Lovo Lovo, Ratu Tui ISavau, and liatu EpeJi. So lar the team has played six matches, of which they have won two, lost two, and drawn two. In one or two of the matches they played capitally, several members ot the team showing-excellent form with the bat and ball, 'the Hon. J. S. Udal, who when a youngster was ollered a place in W. G. Grace's team which visited Australia in .LB7o, is undoubtedly aoapital batsman. He played a fine innings in "" the match against Wellington, scoring 50. Mr Collins is also a nice free bat, while

The hanusome premises in which the Wellington hraneh of tin; Colonial Bank is housed are situated on Lambton Quay. The local manager is Mr E. J. Reid.

The Wellington premise-s of the above well-known Hssuranee society are situated on Lambton Quay. Mr A. E. Gibbes is the-local manager.

Messrs Groome, Caldwell, and Scott are also good players, the latter belonging to the steady order. O* the natives, who enter into the game with great spirit, Kadavu Levu is the best batsman and Nai Liovo Lovo has also shown good form in some of the matches. Tni Vanua Vou is the " demon " bowler of the team. He trundled splendidly in the first innings of the Wellington men, beating several of ouv cracks with really good balls. Of the Europeans Caldwell is a good howler. lie pegs away steadily and mixes them up a good deal. The Fijtans Crime to the Colony for the purpose of learning more about the game, and they freely admit that from an educational point of view the trip will result in a great deal of good. The natives are already practising slow bowling, which is an entirely new branch of the game to them. They .are apt pupils, and there is no reason why they should not improve. The members of the team made themselves great favourites wherever they went, and they are described as a "splendid iot of fellows" by all who had the pleasure of meeting them. From the social point of view the trip has been a most enjoyable one.
