The premises of Mr J. Godber, confectioner, Cuba street, were entered by thieves early on Saturday morning, but they sue;ceeded in obtaining only about 5s ""in. coppers, the takings of the previous day having been deposited .in tiie safe. The entrance was evidently ell'ectcd by means of a refreshment room window, which had been left open for the purpose of ventilation. The inmates of the dwelling heard a noise during the night, but thought it proceeded from the street, and Mr Godber thinks the thieves were disturbed in their quest by the approach of the nightwatchman. The earliest known directory was that of London, published in 1077.
