WELLINGTON WOOLLEN COMPANY.

DEPUTATION TO THE PREMIER. A deputation from the Wellington Woollen Company, headed by the Hon C. J. Johnston, waited upon the Premier on Monday and urged that an alteration should be made in the specifications drawn up for the contract for the supply of uniforms for the Defence Force. The particular condition in respect of which an alteration was desired was that which specified that the cloth should be dyed with indigo blue. Only two companies in the Colony used this ~dye, and if it were insisted on the other companies, including the Wellington Woollen Company, would be altogether debarred from tendering. It was claimed by the- deputation that the Wellington Woollen Company used a dye which would answer the purpose quite as well as indigo blue, and in fact was superior to it, and it was urged that the specification should be modified so that either it or the indigo blue might be used. The Company was willing to submit to any test as between this dye and indigo blue and to abide by the result. The Premier said if the Company would forward him a piece of cloth dyed with this material he would have it tested. Should the test prove satisfactory he would be prepared to admit the dye into the specification. The- deputation expressed its satisfaction with this arrangement.
