A strange accident recently befel.Mr Whymper, the famous mountain climber, who had scaled many almost inaccessible heights without injury. He was to lecture in Liverpool on his experiences, and fell while ascending the staircase leading to the platform. His collar-bone was fractured, and the lecture had ..to be abandoned. . -' : A Scandinavian inventor -claims that 1 & has discovered a light Avhieh is superior to and more powerful than electricity. It is prepared by a simple process of evaporating petroleum. The light is pure white, and possesses about 12,000 candle-power, and consumes less than a quart of oil to each 1000 candle-power every hour.
