Some discussion took place at the City Council meeting last week upon the question of public salt and fresh water baths. Councillor Petherick stated • that the Harbour Board would survey for The Council the site which might be obtained for the purpose. Councillors Devine, Penty and Harris thought some definite tenure should be given by the Government. It was ’also suggested that the Premier should be again interviewed in order (1) to more clearly ascertain the conditions upon which the Thorndon site would be granted, and (2) whether the condition re combined salt and fresh water baths would allow the Council the alternative of constructing fresh water baths in some other part of the City instead, say Te Aro for instance. Councillor Tatum suggested the Basin Reserve. It was finally agreed to adopt the recommendation of the Public Works Committee on the subject, viz.:—■ “ That the City Surveyor be instructed to furnish a rough estimate as to the cost of constructing fa) a swimming bath 300 ft by 150 ft, and (b) a swimming bath 150 ft by 100 ft; also a fresh water hath sQft by 2 mr
