The Royal Commission which was charged some time since with an investigation of certain charges made against the North Canterbury Charitable Aid Board have reported:—(l) That there is no justification for the charge of cruelty by the officers in refusing assistance in deserving cases; (2) as to alleged extravagance of tho Board in the scale of salaries paid to its officers, the Commissioners find that the salaries of tho secrotary, bookkeeper and clerk are not excessive, but that tho salary of tho present inspector is, and that the services of one clerk might be dispensed with; (3) as to tho charge of parsimony in dealing with old, sick and improvident pooplo, tho Commissioners state there is no justification for this complaint, but only in regard to the permanent dole issued; (4<) as to the alleged conduct of tho inspector of tho Board in acting immorally to some of those who ask for or are in receipt of aid, tho Commissioners J report “Wo find this is not proven.”
