WELLINGTON GUN CLUB.
A pigeon shooting match for an open handicap of 100 sovs —65 so vs to the first man, 20 sovs to the second,' 10 sovs to third and 6 sovs to the fourth was held under the auspices of the Wellington Provincial Gun Club on the Show Grounds, Petone, yesterday. The conditions were nine birds to each competitor. There whs a fair attendance, and of the 29 nominations 24 accepted, five of the competitors being nominated twice.. Considerable annoyance was occasioned to the competitors in the early part of the day by the “ barracking ” of some betting men, but on the officers of the Club threatening to prosecute anyone found betting openly the trouble ceased. The duties of secretary and referee were discharged in a satisfactory manner by Messrs H. D. O’Callaghan and Poynton respectively. Messrs H. Bailey and W. T. Broderick killed all their birds and divided the first and second prizes, and Messrs Scott; .S:. W* Feast and G- Matthews missed one each, and divided Hie third and fourth prizes.
