OBITUARY.
Mr George Wilkinson, of the firm of Thompson and Wilkinson, Marton, died at the Wanganui Hospital on Wednesday. He had been suffering from a complication of internal complaints. Mr Wilkinson was well-known in Druidical circles. The father of deceased is a resident of Feilding. - A young lad named John Kihau, aged 17, a pupil of Te Aute College, son of Mr Alfred Kihau and grandson of Mr T. Parata, M.H.R., died at his grandfather’s residence at Puketeraki on Sunday morning, the 6th inst. London, January 14. The death is announced of Professor J. R. Seeley, M.A., in his 61st year. Professor Seeley was born in London in 1834, and educated at the City of London School, and at Christ’s College, Cambridge. In July, 1858, he was elected a Fellow of his college, where he was a lecturer for about two years and a half. He was then appointed principal classical assistant at his old school, and held that post until his appointment, in 1863, to the Professorship ot‘ Latin in University College, London. The Queen, on the recommendation of Mr Gladstone, appointed him Professor of Modern History at Cambridge, October 9, 1869. He was elected to a professorial fellowship at Caius College, Cambridge, in October, 1882. He was the author of “ Ecce Homo,” and other religious as well as important classical works.
