Tuesday, the 22nd; inst., is to be a bank holiday in Wellington. We understand that the Government will notify the Manawatu Railway Company before the end of the present month of its intentions with respect to the acquisition of the Manawatu railway. The weather in Wellington and in the country districts on Tuesday was oppressively hot. Our Stratford correspondent telegraphs “ The weather to-day is intensely hot, and the glass in the shade at noon recorded 82 degrees. This was at an elevation of 1000 ft above the sea level. It was much hotter on the lower ground.” A number of estates in various parts of the Colony are under offer to the Government, and these offers are now being considered by the Cabinet. The matters are however, still incomplete. *
