At a special meeting- of the Wairarapa Relief Fund Committee in Auckland, a report showed that the total receipts, including special contributions for Mrs Macdonald's children, amount to .£1350. In reply to a telegram sent to him, the Mayor of Dunedin (Mr Fish) stated that provision had been made for all known cases, including Mrs Macdonald's family. He suggested that after making reasonable provision for all needful cases, the balance should be held by each committee pro rata to the local contributions, for future disasters of a similar character. The committee adjourned, consideration of the matter. A property of 100 acres of standing bush on the Ashurst-Pohangina road is said to have changed hands at .£lO per acre.
