THE WAIRARAPA FUND.
A GENEROUS DONATION
Before Messrs Brough and Boucicault opened their season in Wellington, they intimated to the committee of the Wairarapa Relief Fund that they wished to make a contribution to the fund, but as their action might be construed as an advertisement, they made it a condition that there should be no acknowledgment until their sea&on had closed. Mr Gale, lion treasurer, now acknowledges receipt of their cheque for £SO.
An additional subscription acknowledged for the fund is that of J. Gooden, 10s. Chbistchurch, December 22.
At a meeting of the Wairarapa Belief Fund the committee reported the total receipts at .£B3O 15s. It was resolved that the list should close at the end of the year. In reply to a telegram from Dunedin it Avas resolved—" That this committee does not agree with the local committees who have expressed the opinion that any money should be returned. This committee is further of opinion that the Auckland, Wellington and Dunedin committees should disbure the whole of the moneys in their possession to the sufferers by the Wairarapa disaster, and this committee will make its surplus available on the understanding that all the money subscribed be divided/
