A HANDSOME TROPHY.

The trophy to be presented to the owner of the horse winning the Wellington Cup, to be run on Anniversary Day, arrived from England by the Doric last Saturday. The trophy, which is in the form of a vase, is 2ft 6in high, and contains 181 ounces of silver, and is mounted on a stand of ebony plinth Gin thick. The stand bears a large silver plate for the inscription. The figure of Victory, holding aloft a laurel wreath, surmounts the cover of the vase, while above each handle there is a miniature racehorse. The vase is beautifully chased, and is altogether a magnificent piece of workmanship. It cost nearly 100 guineas, and was manufactured by Messrs Atkin Bros., one of the leading silversmiths of London. The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company made no charge for freight. The trophy was procured through Mr W. V. Jackson, formerly a steward,of the Wellington Racing Club, who is now living in London. The vase is claimed to be one of the handsomest ever offered for competition by a New Zealand racing club, and is therefore well worth winning. It will probably be on view in one of the shop windows in the course of a day or two. LOWER VALLEY JOCKEY CLUB.
