FOUL BROOD.

The following is the draft bill adopted at the committee meeting of the National Beekeepers’ Association :

An Act to prevent the spread of Foul Brood and other Contagious Diseases among Bees.—Whereas it is desirable to prevent the spread of and to eradicate contagious diseases among bees—Be it therefore enacted, by. the Governor of the Province of New South Wales, with the advice and consent of the Legislative Couucil and House of Assembly of the said Province, in this present Parliament assembled, as .fellows :

Every person who shall have in his possession, or under his care, any colony, hive, or swarm of bees affected with foul brood or other contagious disease shaU forthwith report the same to the Department of Agriculture, and take such steps .for. the eradication of such' disease as the , department may direct,, 7v.;(;- :;v■'vf' 2 . Any person wlio shall', after on 6 week's notice in writing having) been served upon him by the department or; person, appointed, or authorised under the. pro visions of the next clause, knowingly fail to observe the foregoing sec r tion in any particular, or shall knowingly have on his premises any comb affected with foul brood or other contagious disease among bees, shall be guilty of an oflfenpe under this Act, punishable, on summary conviction, by a penalty of not less than 5s or more than LlO. 3. For the purpose of this Act there shall be appointed by the Governor one or more bee-experts to carry out the duties necessary for the administration of this Act, and the Governor may, from time to time, make such regulations as may be necessary. 4. Any inspector, or person appointed or authorised by the Department of Agriculture for the purposes of this Act, may, with such assistance as he may think fit, enter upon any land or premises where bees are kept, inspect all beehives and materials bee-keeping thereon. '5; Act may be cited as the Diseases among Bees Act.
