Adelaide, December 19
The Assembly lias passed the Woman’s Suffrage Bill. The only alteration made in Committee was in the direction of granting women the right to vote through the post. The amendment, however, is conditional on the Legislative Council assenting to it. Melbourne, December 19. The Land and Income Tax Bill has been read the third time in the Legislative Assembly by 47 votes to 35. In Committee on the Bill an amendment was carried exempting mutual life offices from the land tax. The amendment was unsuccessfully opposed by the Government. Abbott’s tannery, near Bendigo, has been burned to the ground, the damage being estimated at £IO,OOO. The building and its contents were insured for £5500. Sydney, December 19.
Mr Casey, agent for the New Australian settlement, is appealing for funds to send several families to Paraguay whose husbands have already gone there. These families have suffered considerably through the collapse, and have been left practically destitute ; and the organisation here is absolutely without funds.
