The amount of damages awarded by the 'jury in the case Hanson v. Corporation., and the costs, amounting in all to <£24B Is 2d, were passed for payment by the City Council last week. Councillor Fraser hoped the result of the case would make those connected with the drainage works take proper precautions. Councillor Barber endorsed Councillor Fraser’s remarks. He mentioned that since the action had begun a serious accident had been narrowly averted in Riddiford street, through there being no lights placed oa the soil taken out of a trench, and some surplus pipes. Society has few charms for Mr Buckle, | the king of the Times office. His one thought is his paper. He is a man of i robust appearance.
