RESULTS OF MEDICAL EXAMINA-
TIONS.
A meeting of the Senate of the University of New Zealand was held at the University office on Dec. 13, to consider the reports of the examirierefor the professional examinations in medicine, which took place in Dunedin last Month. After full consideration, it was resolved: — 1. That the following be recorded as having passed the first professional examination • —Miss M. B. Cruickshank, A. E. A. Palmer, 8.A., E. J. O’Neill. 2. That the following be recorded as having passed the second professional examination : —J. M. Matthews. 3. Thatthe following he recorded as having passed the third professional examination, and that they be admitted to the degrees of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery :—J. L. Gregg, M. Campbell.
NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER
EXAMINATIONS.
As the University examinations for 1894 are now in progress throughout the Colony, we have obtained frojn the Registrar (Mr W. M. Maskell) particulars of the numbers of candidates at each of the various centres where the examinations are held. Curiously enough, the total number of candidates this year is exactly the same as it was last year, viz., 957 :
NOVEMBER EXAMINATIONS. Auckland. LL.D. pass, 4 for LL.B. pass* 17 for BApass, 4 for B.Sc., 2 for M.B. pass, 3 for senior scholarships, 11 for law, 1 for teachers’ class C : Total, 47; as against 46 last year.
Gisborne. — l for B.A. pass, 3 for law; Total 4, same as last year. Wellington. — 3 for honours, 1 for LL.D. pass, 7 for LL.B. pass, 15 for B.A. pass, 1 for Mus. Bac. pass, 1 for M.B. pass, 29 for law, 1 for teachers’ class C: Total, 58 ; last year, 57. Nelson. —6 for B.A. pass, 1 for law: Total, 7; last year, 11. Greymouth. 1 for honours, 2 for LL.B. pass, 1 for B.A. pass, 2 for Mus. Bac. pass, 3 for law : Total, 9 ; last year, 3. Christchurch. —lo for honours, 3 for M.A. pass, 9 for LL.B. pass, 63 for 8.A.. pass, 10 for B.Sc., 2 for Mus. Bac. pass, 2 for M.B. pass, 7 for senior scholarships, 2 for Tinline scholarship, 5 for law, 1 for teachers’ class C: Total, 114; last year, 108.
Dunedin. —9 for honours, 1 for M.A. pass, 9 for LL.B. pass, 48 for B.A. pass, 9 for B.Sc, 25 for M.B. pass, 9 for senior scholarships, 3 for Tinline scholarship; 15 for. law, 2 for teachers’ class C: Total, 130 ; last year, 115. Invercargill. —l for honours, 1 for LL.B. pass, 5 for B.A. pass, 2 for senior scholarships, 2 for law, 2 for teachers’ class C.: Total, 13 ; last year, 11. Exhibition 1851 Science Scholarship.— 1 from Auckland and 1 from Christchurch. Totals for the Colony —28 for honours, 4 for M.A. pass, 2 for LL.D. pass, 32 for LL.B. pass, 156 for B.A. pass, 23 for B.Sc, 5 for Mus. Bac. pass, 30 for M.B. pass, 21 for senior scholarships, 5 for Tinline scholarship, 69 for law (professional), 7 for teachers’ class C: Grand total, 382 ; last year, 355. DECEMBER EXAMINATIONS. Out of the aggregate of 957 candidates, 282 are women, as against 307 women last year.
