WELLINGTON-WOODVILLE RAILWAY.

THE EMPLOYEES’ BENEFIT SOCIETY. The sixth annual meeting of the Wel-lington-W oodville Railway Employees’ Benefit Society -was held at the Government Railway Station last week. Mr W. H. Frethey (treasurer), in the unavoidable absence of the president, and also the vicepresident, occupied the chair. There was a fair attendance of members. Tbe report and balance-sheet of the Committee of Management was, on the motion of the Chairman, received and adopted. The balance-sheet showed the total receipts to have been «£IBO 15s 4d and the disbursements for sick and funeral allowance .£162 11s Bd. In the report the committee regretted that they could not recommend a dividend. The report recorded the death during the year of two members, and of the wife of another member, and also the Society’s loss 'of the services of' Messrs B. Dawson (late Traffic Manager) and E. Newham (late Locomotive Foreman). The membership was reported as 148, but it is expected that this number will be considerably augmented at the commencement of the ensuing year. Subject to his approval, Mr T. E. - Donne was elected president. The following were elected the Committee of Management to represent the respective departments • Traffic department, Messrs J. Dimond and W. H. Frethey; maintenance department, Messrs McGuinness and Algie; locomotive running department, Messrs J. Jack and A. Hall; workshops department, Messrs IV. "Woollett and C. Couchman Messrs Hall, Frethey and Woollett each being re-elected. Messrs C. Townsend and F.S. Pope were elected auditors. A hearty vote of thanks was given to

the retiring Committee of Management for their past services. The Secretary (Mr T, R. Barrer), in proposing the motion, made special reference to the services rendered by Messrs Patrick, Dawson, Woodhouse and Hailwood. ; - j '
