WELLINGTON LIEDERTAFEL.
It was a “ Gemischter Abend ” —the second of the series—with the Liedertafel last night. In other words, ladies were privileged to attend. This they did in Considerable number- The concert took place in Thomas and Co.’s hall under the conduct of Mr R. Parker, and every available seat was occupied. The programme opened with a couple of part songs, “ The Sabbath Call” (Kreut/er) and “ O Sanctissima,” which were sung with good expression, Mr W. J. Wratt followed with two little songs, viz., Sterndale Bennett’s “Maiden' Mine” and Siebel’a romance Faust”) “When all Was Young/’ which were very fairly interpreted: One of Haydn’s instrumental trios Was played With excellent effect by .. Messrs Mac Duff Boyd (violin); S. R. Kennedy (’cello) and Gibbs (piano). The next dumber was an extremely pretty little part song by Kjerulf (the Norwegian composer),entitled “On the Shore,” and it. Was executed very tastefully by the Liedertafel.’ * Messrs W. C. S.: Levers and F. V. Waters contributed a vocal duet, “The Fisherman” (Gabussi), with tolerable success. A part song, • “ Olaf’s Homecoming ” (Grieg), in which Mr A. Gray took the bass solo, proved highly acceptable. The execution was very good, but the preponderance of bass voices marred the balance of tone. -This was rectified in the next part song “ Parting” (Otto). Mr W. A. Day gave a spirited-rendering of Sullivan’s song “If I were a King,” and was warmly applauded. Mr B. B. Williams Sang two charming songs by Sterndale Bennett, viz., “ May-Dew ” and Forget-Me-Not,” and was promptly encored. The remaining items were two part songs: “Departure” (Abt), and “Lutzow’s Wild Chase” (Weber), and the choral march “Hark! The Merry Drum is Sounding.” The concert was oyer-by half-past 9.
