CALEDONIAN SOCIETY.

ANNUAL MEETING.

The annual meeting of the Caledonian Society was held in the Exchange Buildings last week, when there was a representative attendance of members. Mr James Russell, one of the vice-presidents, occupied the chair in the absence of Mr H. A. Gordon (president), who was unavoidably absent. The secretary, in his annual report, stated that at the annual sports gathering, owing to the steady downpour of rain all day, the takings were very small, and the sports resulted in a very heavy loss. However, the entries were as numerous as at any previous meeting. The report. regretted that no new members had joined during the year. Nine members had resigned since the last meeting. This, added to the fact that a large number of members are in arrears, was telling seriously on the financial position of the Society. The thanks of the Society were due to the Defence Department, Mr W. G. O. Johnson, Captain Strang and others. The Musical Committee also submitted a report. The balance-sheet showed that the Society had a credit balance of -£llß 5s 4d, as against <£333 18s 3d last year; Mr J. Jack, sen., in moving that the report and balance-sheet be adopted, regretted that they had such unfavourable weather for the annual spouts meeting. .He was glad, however, to see that the receipts from the concert exceeded the expenditure, although the balance was small. The report and balance-sheet were then adopted. On the motion of Mr J. Jack, sen, seconded by Mr W. G. O. Johnson, Mr James Russell was elected presideht. The election of the other officers resulted as follows Vice-presidents, Messrs D. Pryde (re-elected) and-A. Cameron; directors, Messrs John Jack, sen., J. Duthie, J. Barry, A. Cameron, C. Stewart, D. Ross, D. S. Gray, R. Greenfield, J. Hutchens, G. Wilson, J. Marchbanks, G. Pirie, J. Ross, A. S. Paterson, J. Young, E. Wilson, J. Paterson brought up the report of the sub-committee appointed to revise the rules of the Society. One of the alterations suggested was that each member should receive a ticket for the annual cdncert. • • The alterations suggested by, the subcommittee were adopted, after which the meeting terminated. ;
