ATHLETICS.
The annual road race of the Wellington Harriers took place on Saturday afternoon on the Hutt road, starting on the other side, of Dimock’s and finishing at the Naval Sheds. Out of 10 entries, six faced the starter. P. Clark (25yds) cut out the pace, and at the three-quarter mile post was leading, closely followed by Wallace, Hawthorne and Angell, in the order named.
This was maintained to the last hundred yards, when Hawthorne and Angell came, strongly, but were unable to catch Clark, who finished about Byds ahead. Hawthorne (45yds) beating Angell (scr) by about a foot for second place. Time, 4min 48sec. Mr G. B. Nicholls acted as starter and Mr Ulic Shannon as judge.
