WELLINGTON A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.

A meeting of the General Committee of the Wellington Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held last week, -Mr E. W. Mills, vice-president, occupying the chair. Messrs Stuckey, A. D. Crawford and F. L. Wright made several suggestions as to the future management of the annual show, which it was decided should be circulated amongst members of the committee for consideration, with a view to appointing a special committee to consider them. The secretary presented a statement of receipts and expenditure from 16th March to 26th November last. The receipts were •£992 2s sd, and included ,£338 as donations, <£2ll 2s from subscriptions, .£262 13s 8d as receipts from railway and gates at last show, and <£lll 14s 9d from entry fees. The expenditure was £690 Is 9d r leaving a balance of .£302 0s Bd. The Society's assets were shown to amount to the value of £ 6 73 8s 88. nnß Lta li l iinc

were £607, leaving a balance to credit of £66 8s Bd. Mr F. Bradey said he did not think the late show was up to the standard the Association ought .to set itself. Although the show this year had bean held undermost favourable circumstances there was only a balance of £6O. There was something wrong.

Dr Newman thought the position of the Association had never been more satisfactory. In the past, and while he was president, the Association was over <£4oo in debt, and now, after paying all expenses, they showed a credit balance of over <£6o. Still, he thought a greater revenue should be obtained from the ground. Mr W. H. Millward thought in the first place the show was not sufficiently advertised, and secondly the ground was costing them too much. Each show was costing them about <£l2o for rent, which was a long

way too much. He moved that a committee consisting of Dr Newman, and - Messrs Lingard, Majendie, Crawford and the mover should be set up for the purpose of devising ways and means of deriving increased revenue from the ground. After some further discussion the motion was carried. Cash prizes, amounting to £4OO, and several accounts were passed for payment. Votes of thanks was passed to the directing ste wards . (Messrs Bidwill, Matthews, Grace and Crawford), to Messrs A. G. Pilmer, A. Walker and J. Strang, of the Wairarapa, Mr H. Gillies, of the Manawatu, and the local stewards, for assistance given.
