SWIMMING.
The programme for the Nelson regatta to he held on New Year’s Day ha 3 been settled.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) London, August 24
On Saturday Tyers, the amateur champion, placed the 1000 yards salt water championship to his credit for the second time, and without being pressed broke the TOGO yards record (made in a bath by Todd, of Newcastle, in 1881), of 15mib 5-J-sec, by S-g-sec. Tyers had only four competitors to beat, the most dangerous being little Robert Derbyshire, whom,-however, he led at the finish by 57sec. A. A. Green, of the Otter Club, did not enter for this race, otherwise Tyers would have had to make better time than he achieved, since Green swam the same distance at the Welsh Harp a week ago in 15min 2see, the course being carefully measured before and after the performance.
