London, July 19. Baron Schroeder has suggested, with the view of settling the claims against the old Loan and Mercantile directors, that he should transfer his own Land Companyshares to the new company. London, July 21. Four British warships and two torpedo boats while being prepared for the naval manoeuvres were found to have defects in the machinery and broke down. They will be docked for repairs. It is reported that the British Government has consented to Italy occupying Kassala. The Eastern Extension Cable Company held a great function in the Imperial Institute last night to celebrate the 25th anniversary of cable communication with the East. Among those present were the Prince of Wales, the Duke of Cambridge, the Duke of Fife, the Marquis of Salisbury, the Marquis of Lome, Viscount Wolseley, Mr J. Chamberlain, and hundreds of other notables, besides the Agents-General of the Colonies. All the above attended a banquet given by the Company, and at the garden fete fully five thousand were present. The Prince of "Wales personally cabled felicitous messages to the Indian and Colonial Governments from the fete. The New Zealand and River Plate Land Mortgage Company, Limited, intends to reconstruct, under the title of the Consolidated Land Mortgage Company, with a capital of ,£1,000,000, in 380,000 preference shares of 10s each, and 180,000 ordinary shares at £4 10s.
