GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP. Bij Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, July 24. The Championship Golf Tourney commenced at Hagley Park to-day. The weathGr was favourable. Representatives from the Hutt, Otago, North Otago and Christchurch clubs are engaged. A start was made with the Amateur Championship with the following results : Amateur Championship of New Zealand over 18 holes, the game to be scored by holes : —First round —A. White (Christchurch) beat E. Welder (Christchurch) by one hole; J. R. Scott (Otago) beat C. M. How den (Hutt, Wellington), three up and one to play; D. Pryde (Wellington) beat Dr Ogston (Otago), four up and three to play; G. Todd (Otago) beat W. B. Lees (Otago), four up and two to play; N. G. Ilanmer (Christchurch) beat F. Stilling (Otago) three up and two to play; R. Warner (Christchurch) beat D. B. Howden (Hutt), five up and four to play ; 11. McNeil (Otago) beat M. S. Dodd (Otago), three up and two to play; C. W. Rattray (Otago) beat J. C. Wilson (Christchurch) by one hole; Mcßude (Hutt) beat A. J. Somerville (Otago), three up and two to play; Dr Brown (Otago) beat T. D. Condeil (Christchurch), five up and three to play; F. Leitch (Otago) beat W. R. Darling (North Otago), eight up and seven to play; Dr Lomax Smith (Christchurch), L. A. Cuff (Christchurch), Dr Gos.set (Christchurch), W. C. McGregor (Otago), and D. R. Caldwell (Hutt) had byes, the players against whom they had been drawn not putting in an appearance. Second round Scott beat White, Dr Gosset beat Hanmer, Mac Neil beat Warner, Dr Lomax Smith beat Cuff, D. Pryde beat Todd, McGregor beat Dr Brown, W. Pryde beat Rattray, Leitch beat Caldwell, Somerville, last year’s champion, was beaten by Rattray (Otago) in the first round. W. Pryde diol 18 holes in 84 in the second round. July 25. The Champion Golf Tourney was continued at Hagley Park to-day. In the amateur championship, third round, J. R. Scott (Otago) beat Dr Lomax Smith (Christchurch), D. Pryde (Hutt) a bye, 11. McNeill (Otago) beat W. Pryde (Hutt), W. C. McGregor (Otago) beat F. Leitch (Otago). Fourth round —J. R. Scott beat D. Pryde, 11. McNeill beat W. C. McGregor, The final will be, flayed to* morrow,
