The monthly meeting of the Melrose Borough Council was held last night. Present: The Mayor (in the chair) and Councillors Collins, Paii hurst, Key, Brunskill, Brown, Fear,, Kershaw and Baylis. The city solicitor forwarded a copy of the Drainage Empowering Bill, which was referred to the Public works Committee. The inspector of works, ip his Teport, recommended that a pipe drain be laid in Brooklyn, as applied for by residents in the locality; that a portion of Belvedere road, Kilbiraie, be fenced and the drain extended. The report was adopted. The report of the Public Works Committee, already published, was adopted, with an addition to the effect that the Council was of opinion that in the interests of public safety the magazine at Point Jerningham should be closed. Accounts amounting to -277 18s 8d were passed for payment. Councillor Fairhurst's notice of motion was passed in a slightly amended form as follows:—That clause 1 of the resolution of May 16th, 1894, re the Roseneath roads be rescinded, and the following substituted therefor:-* "That Messrs Baker Bros, be informed that the Council will be prepared to take over the roads at Eoseneath when they are formed 18ft 6in wide, channelled, metalled 16ft wide and Bin in thickness in accordance with the plan submitted; metal to be equal in quality to the samples selected by the Council, and the roads fenced to the satisfaction of the Council, but that the Council willuottakQOvertheapproachroad"
