BOWLING.

On Saturday afternoon the directors of the Wellington Bowling Club took ad. vantage of one of their periodical meeti»gs at the pavilion to spring a surprise upon Captain Edwin by making him a complimentary presentation in recognition of his services as secretary. Mr W. Gray (the president of the Club), in a speech eulogistic of tho gallant captain's services, enlarged upon the zeal he had always displayed in the discharge of his duties, his anxiety to promote the pleasure of both members and visitors, and his unvarying courtesy. He then presented the secretary with a handsome pair of gold spectacles and a silver cigarette-case, bearing tho following inscription : "" Edwin, R.N. From the directors of tho Wellington Bowling Club, 1894, as a mark of their esteem." Captain Edwin, in reply, said the directors had so well concealed their intentions that he was completely taken by surprise. He fchanked them very heartily for their gifts, which he would ever prize as symbolical of his connection willi the Club and tho pleasant associations he had formed there. At the samo time he felt bound to say that his duties as secretary had been made as light as possible by tho willing assistance ho had always received from the directors and members of the Club. The captain's health was then drunk, and the proceedings terminated.
