NOTES.

BY FANCIER It will be remembered that some time ago I called on kennel owners to send me notes of doings at their kennels. So far, only a few of those I named havo responded to my request. I hope otheis will shortly follow their example, for it should be remembered that this column is entirely in the interest of fanciers. In the list of kennel owners I mentioned in my last note on the subject, I inadvertently omitted to mention Mr K. H. Wilson's Newtown Black Field Spaniel Kennels. A few weeks ago a writer, in a Christchurch paper, said it was a pity I did not take the loading fanciers' papers. In glancing over my last notes I notice that items from no less than five fanciers' papers are acknowledged. The items in question wero taken from The Fisld, Sydney Referee, Licensed Victuallers' Gazette, British Fanciers, and the Australasian, Othar fanciers' papers I have by meat the present moment are '.—The Stock Keeper, JAvc Stock Journal, Fox Terrier Chronicle, and Yorkshire Pod. If the writer in question can recommend any others I shall be obliged to him for doing so.

Several fanciers went off to Soames' Island last Tuesday to see the dogs that are in quarantine. On their return some of them came to see me. From them I learned that Newmarket Ruff has at last left off shedding his coat and his new one is coming on wonderfully. One of the party said it was a certainty there was no dog in New Zealand to touch him. From others among the party came emphatic words of praiso about Rogen's collie bitch, Faith, and Horrax's collie bitch, and how Rogen's collie bitch Zelandie has improved. She has the best front of any collie in the Colony. From which I gather that the members of the party were very well pleased with the dogs.

My Christchurch correspondent sends me another budget of interesting news this week. As, however, the Mail goes to press a day earlier than usual this week, I have to hold over most of his notes till nest week. One of the most interesting

items among my correspondent's notes is a description of Mr Barnard's lately imported retrievers (a dog and a bitch), and he informs me that the dog visited the bitch last month.

I hear that Messrs Harrison and Horrax have sold their good old collie Champion Highlander. I must congratulate the lucky man, Champion Highlander's purchaser.
