The monthly district meeting of the Independent Order of Good Templars was held at the Temperanco Hall, Adelaide road, on the 12th. Bro. G. Petherick, D.C.T., presided. One member was added to the roll. The question of re-establishing a lodge at Petone was considered, and Bros. D. Hall and W. J. Weston were appointed to canvass the inhabitants of Petone on the subject, and, if necessary, arrange for a public meeting there at an early date. The attention of town members was called to the desirability of visiting country lodges and helping them in the work. The question of providing district regalia was dealt with, and a committee was appointed to make arrangements to raise funds for the same, .consisting of Bros. Glover, Drummond, W. J. Weston and Hare, Sisters Webb, Livermore, Tasker and Engbert The lodge closed in due form at 10 p.m. The proposal to celebrate Arbour Day by planting a line of trees along Thorndon quay has attracted considerable attention. 1 An appeal is being made to the public for assistance. Tenders will be called for the fencing when a sufficient number of trees is promised, and it is not expected that the- amount required for fencing and digging will exceed 10s 6d each fence. The selection of the deciduous trees is to ba left to the donors themselves.
