St. Paul's schoolroom, in Tinakori road, was the scone of a very pleasant gathering last week, when an entertainment of a most varied and pleasurable character was patronised by a goodly number of people. The occasion was the third halfyearly " social" by the members of St. Paul's Club. Tho members attended in full force, and a number of them, under the leadership of Mr Lawrence, gave an exhibition of their proficiency in dumbbells and other health-sustaining athletic exercises. These exhibitions were a pleasing feature of the evening's amusement. The evolutions were performed to slow music, Mr Herter presiding at the piano. Vocal and other selections were rendered at intervals, and as no regular studied programme had been arranged for, the proceedings were of a delightfully informal character. An ample supply of refreshments braced a capacious sideboard, but they disappeared as tho evening progressed. The prizes won at the Club's last sports werft presented to tho fortunate recipients by Mrs Sprott. Card competitions and other amusements wore indulged in. Messrs Carmichael and Sons, of Wellington, are the successful tenderers for the supply of furniture and fittings to the Government ofllces in Wellington for the remainder of tho year 1894-5. The only other tenderers were Messrs Scoullar and Chisholm, Mr H. Fielder, and Mr C. J. Johnson.
