HOSPITAL HOLIDAYS.
* _ The question as to whether certain of the employees at the Hospital shall receive holidays was brought up at the meeting of the Trustees on Monday. Mr K. C. Kirk said somo of their employees had regular hours and certain holidays during the year. Others had very long hours, and in those cases he thought the Trustees might reasonably grant a holiday' He moved, " That no alteration be made in the holidays of tfie nurses, but that the chief cook, the warder, a servant named A. Doull, second cook, kitchen man, and telephone boy have fourteen days' holiday every year, and that the messenger get a donation of £5 in lieu of a holiday." The motion was seconded by Mr J. Collins. The Rev H. Van Staveren said he would have liked to see the housemaids get 14 days' holiday. Mr Kirk said the housemaids got an afternoon once a week, they got off on alternate Sundays, and also on the public holidays. The motion was agreed to. It appears that the chief cook works 84 hours a week (12 hours a day), the warder 98 hours a week (14 hours a day), the nightwatchman 84 hours (12 a day), the porter 84 (12 a day), Doull and the messenger 73| hours (10* a day), and the second cook and kitchen man 91 hours (13 a day).
