FUNERAL OF MR CROMBIE.

Tho body of tho late Mr C. M. Crombio was removed from his private residence to the Church of St. Mary of the Angels, Boulcott street, on Friday, at 7.30 a.m., at which hour a requiem mass was celebrated by the Very Rev. Father Devoy, assisted by the Rev. Father Goggan. The coffin was covered with wreaths and crosses. A*beautiful wreath of massed violets, surrounded by a border of white flowers, boro the following inscription:—"ln affectionate remembrance, from the officers of his Department." Other wreaths and crosses were inscribed as follow : " With the deep sympathy of the Premier and members of the Cabinet"? " From the President and Council of the Public Service Association, as a mark of their respect and esteem for their late colleague " ; "In testimony of the sympathy and respect of officers of the Public Trust Office." A wreath from the Government Insurance Department was inscribed " With sincere sympathy." Other wreaths from the Christchurch Bowling Club, the Wellington Bowling Club, from the officers of the General Post Office, from St. Patrick's College Football Club (of which Mr Crombie was vice-president), from the boarders of St. Mary's Convent, Hill street. Private wreaths were sent by Mr E. N. Liffiton (Wanganui), Mr and Mrs P. P. Webb, Mr and Mrs Jno. Bell, Mr and Mrs R. J. Collins, Mrs McCarthy and family, Miss M. McDonald, Mr and Mrs Denton, and Mrs A. Moore, and others. The coffin was borne from the church to the solemn music of the " Dead March in Saul." In the funeral procession, the hearse was followed by the deceased's sons, and then came the students of St. Patrick's College, who were followed by carriages containing the Very Rev Dr Watters, Rector of St. Patrick's College; tho Very Rev. Father Devoy, V.G.; the Rev. Father Hickson, the Rev. C, S. Hogg, the Rev. C. De Castro, and the Rev. W. J. Habens, the Premier, the Colonial Treasurer, and tho Minister of Lands. The pall-bearers were the heads of various Government departments and the chief officers of the Tax Department (Mr J. McGowan, Deputy Commissioner, and Mr G. F. C. Campbell, Chief Clerk). Amongst the mourners were Messrs J. E. FitzGcrald, C.M.G., W. H. Hales, Lieut.-Colonel Hume, Lieut.-Colonel Newall, Dr MacGregor, Captain Edwin, Messrs Heywood, Pollen, Warburton, Garvey, Barron/Glasgow, J. H. Richardson, D. M. Luckie, R. J. Collins, J. Ritchie, S. Percy Smith,H. J. 11. Blow, Von Dadelszen, Gray, Pilcher, Major Messenger, Captain Coleman, Messrs Hudson, Leslie, Fox, Gavin, Maskell, Ministerial Private Secretaries, the Hon Edward Richardson, the Hon T. W. Hislop, the Hon Dr Grace, M.L.C., Messrs J. Ross, T. W. Gale, J. McLellan (President Chamber of Commerce), J. Blundell, E. Bell, T. W. McKenzie, Captain Kennedy, and many others. At the grave the funeral service was read by the Rev Father Devoy, Dr Watters and Father Hickson giving the responses.
