The world's herring catch every year is 390,(X)0 tons, which is all consumed before the next season. Cannibalism prevails to a frightful extent on the right bank of the Kiver Urnbange, Africa. A priest reports that native slaves are brought to the market, and sold like butcher's meat. Persons unable to purchase a whole slave buy an arm, or a leg, or the head, and mark it off with a piece of chalk, and when the whole of the unfortunate victim has been selected, he is killed, and the several portions distributed to the customers.
