The residents of Fitzherbert terrace have petitioned the City Council against tho erection of a hose and reel station in the avenue. The matter was considered at Thursday's meeting of the Council, when Councillor Tanner moved that tho petition be referred to the Fire Brigade Committee, and that pending their report the work be discontinued. The motion was seconded by Councillor Anderson. Councillor Fraser said it was not so long ago that the residents of Fitzherbert terrace asked the Council to put a hose and reel station and firebell there. Councillor Anderson suggested that the station and firebell should be placed on the vacant* section of land adjoining the GovernmentPrinting Office, near tho railway stationsCouncillor Tanner's motion was then put' and carried.
