The railway revenue for the four weeks ending 28th April amounted to £99,517 9s Bd, as compared with £113,250 7s Id in the corresponding period last year. The expenditure was £58,558 15s 2d, as compared with .£56,602 23 lid. Of the revenue the North Island lines contributed £33,658 Is 7d, as against .£36,299 3s 6d for the corresponding four weeks of last year, and the Middle Island lines £65,859 8s Id, as against .£76,951 3s 7d. Of the expenditure, the North Island lines absorbed .£21,993 10s 7d, as against £21,414 15s lid, and the Middle Island lines ,£36,565 4s 7d, as against £35,187 7s. The proportion of expenditure to revenue (calculated on an annual average on the several lines) for thj respective periods of 1893-94 was as follows : —North Island—Kawakawa, 10316,108*99; Whangarei, 131*99, 63*91 ; Kaihu, 190*37, 71*70; Auckland, 67*63, 57*54; NapierTaranaki, 61*50, 59*83; Wellington, 67*32, 67*16. Middle Island Hurunui-Bluff, 55*09, 45*10; Greymouth-Brunner, 60*34, '49*97 j Greymouth-Hokitika, 59*60 (for 1894): Westport, 51*77, 44*61; Nelson, 54-53, 55*86; Picton, 100*58, 83*20. On the Wellington section the revenue was £6993 Is 3d, as against £7794 9s 6d in the corresponding period last year. The number of passengers earned was 28,267, as against 39,193. The fares amounted to £234110s Jd) as against £3002 53 7d.
