STRATFORD.

During the past week we have had a great deal of rain and very cold weather. VVe may say that winter haß really so' in 'hough a fow summer flowers have still a few blooms, showing what a mild autumn we have had.

The Town Board had a number of informations to bring before the Jus 1 ices of the Peace, concerning breaches of the by-laws. An objection being brought forward that the by-laws were not made according to statute, these informations were dismissed with costs against the Board, the decision causing some sur prise. Though this time the offenders have pot off by a technicality, n > doubl, they will take warning and be more care ful in future. It is to the immediate advantage of every individual in a town that drainage and sanitary matteis should be strictly attended to.

Two gentlemen, Mr Coutts and Mr Lacey, have come forward as candidates for the vacancy on the Town Board. The election is to take place on the 4th insfr.

Mr Whitehouso has been in the neighbourhood with "Edison's latest loud phonograph " He is giving entertainments at all the towns around as well as at Stratford.

Mr Barry Sullivan having been disappointed of a house last week on account of bad weather, promises to give his vocal and elocutionary entertainment next week.

A very popular form of amusement this winter is the Debating Club. Toko, Pembroke Road, and Ngaire, have each their Debating Club well patronise;!, and promising both amusement and instruction to those who attend.

The Church of England Annual Soiree takes place on the 14th instant, when it will be full moon, and everyone is praying for fine weather on that occasion. A great many ladies are energetically co operating to make it a success.

Dr Page has removed to more commodious premises, having taken up his abode in the residence lately occupied by Mr EL Norman Liardet.

Mr Curtis' new residence is nearly completed, and makes a handsome addition to the town.

Mr Robert McCracken was the successful applicant for tho position of poundkeeper in Stratford. Thew will now perhaps not be so many animals killed and injured on the line.

Messrs Hannah and Co., of Wellington, are starting a new boot business in the shop lately occupied by Mr Furness.

Mr Ellis, of Stratford, has been made a Justice of the Peace.
