EDUCATION BOARD.
The Education Board met on Wednesday week. Present—Messrs J. R. Blair (chairman), F. H. Fraser, W.. A. Fitzherbert, J. Young, Dr Newman, and Rev J. Paterson. The pay-sheet, amounting to i>lOJ6, was passed for payment. Applications for extension of holidays at Christmas from Misses E. Benbow (Terrace) and McLauchlin (Johnsonville) were declined. The board decided to enquire into a complaint made by Mr Morris, of Otaki, that his child had been expelled from school because she had not taken any sewing work with her. It was decided to instruct the architect to report as to the ventilation of the Greytown School. It was decided to invite applications for a teacher for the Scarborough School near Pahiatua, and forward them to the committee. It was decided to call for tenders for the erection of a shed at Fenridge, and the removal of outbuildings, papering of two rooms of the Mungaroa residence, erecting a dividing fence at Paraparaumu, and removing sheds in connection with the school at the latter place. An application for new ventilators and windows at the Mangatainoko School was granted. The question of erecting extra... outbuildings at the same school was deferred. The chairman reported that he had given the necessary instructions with regard to filling up the vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr G. Beetham.
It was decided at the last meeting of. the Education Board to issiie a circular to the School Committees pointing out how necessary it is that close attention should be paid to the sanitary arrangements at the schools. The board decided to issue' the circular in consequence of a report from the architect that there had been carelessness in cleaning out the drainage traps.
The tender of Mr T. B. Michell has been accepted by the Wellington Education Board for additions to the Fernridge School, and that of Mr C. E. Daniell for additions at Masterton. The board has also accepted a tender for the erection of a. schoolhouse at Khandallah, but the name of the successful tenderer will not be made public until the contract has been signed. The next meeting of the Education Board is to be held on the 15th December.
