DISTRICT JOTTINGS.

The handicaps for the Otaki-Maori Racing Club’s Hack Meeting, which takes place on New Year’s Day, appears elsewhere. They are not a very bright lot, even for a hack meeting, and Pihanga, who is certainly the highest class sprinter engaged, shpuld go nearly winning the double, Trial and Flying, if she is sent, with all her weight. Pumau, lOst 12lb, and Lonely, 10st 91b, ought to have the Hurdles between them, and Hark, Bst, -and Karamea, 7st 131 b, strike me as best in the Glasgow Plate. The Miser is reported to be a good colt, and might land one of his races. Mr H. D. Bell leaves for Christchurch at the end of this week to lead for Mr D. O’Brien in his suit against the Canterbury Jockey Club, which is down for trial on the 11th inst. It is probable that Mr H. M. Lyon, the secretary of the Wellington Racing Club, will have to go down, as he has received an intimation that he will be required as a witness. The following nominations have been made by the country clubs of the Wellington district for the election of two representatives at the Racing Conference:— Wairarapa Racing Club, Lower Valley Jockey Club and Taratahi-Carterton Hack Racing Club, Messrs N. Grace and W. O. Williams; Masterton-Opaki Jockey Club, Messrs A. W. Cave and J. Macara; Porirua Jockey Club, Messrs John Whitehouse and Fred. Death. No nominations have been made by the Otaki-Maori Jockey Club or the Kotahitanga Maori Racing Club. Two nominations were sent in by the Pahiatua Jockey Club, but as, .according to the Rules of Racing, only clubs that have had a programme passed the preceding season, are entitled to nominate, these nominees have been rejected. It will be decided at a meeting of the stewards of the Wellington Racing Club, to be held this week, how and when the election shall be conducted.

Mr Belcher’s smart three-year-old colt Banner, by Escutcheon—Caller Herrin, who won two races at the Wellington Spring Meeting, has been sold to a West Coast sportsman. The price is said to have been a trifle over £2OO. Banner is entered both at the Reefton and Greymouth meetings; but a rumour is current that he will be sent to Australia. ,
