The balance-sheet of the Wellington Borough Fund for the half-year ending 30th September was laid on the table at the'City Council meeting on Friday. TliO balance on the general account amounted, to £12,473 8s Bd. The receipts for rates were £9612 3s Id; rents, £2491 15s lOd; licenses, £3689 5s lid. The expenditure for streets amounted to £7llO 15s sd; street lighting, £ll4O 0s 3d ; collection of refuse and working destructor and collection and disposal of nightsoil, £2320 9s 2d ; fire brigade, £.740 3s lOd. The Wanganui Education Board has resolved to discontinue the payment of the police as truant inspectors, at the end of the present year.
